AT&T, Inc. provides telecommunications services to 72 million consumers and businesses in the United States. The company was founded in 1983 and is headquartered in Dallas, Texas. In 1984, through an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice, AT&T agreed to divest itself of its local telephone operations but retain its long distance, R&D and manufacturing arms. In 2005, Southwestern Bell Inc. acquired AT&T Corp., creating the new AT&T. The company then merged with BellSouth in 2006, and consolidated ownership of Cingular Wireless (now AT&T Mobility) and YELLOWPAGES.COM.
AT&T has 300,000 employees and was placed #10 on the 2008 Fortune 500 Company list. Randall Stephenson serves as CEO, along with CFO Richard Lindner.
AT&T toll free services cost 5.9 cents per minute with an 11-month contract; or 6.9 cents per minute with no contractual obligation. Per minute fees are in addition to varied monthly maintenance and usage fees. Cellular toll free and international toll free (135 countries) are available for flat rates, varying in price depending on services and locations. Advanced features include call routing, call transfers, call announcement, messaging services, and VOIP connections.
