FreedomVOICE Systems was founded in 1996 by Eric Thomas, CEO, who previously had founded B/T SciTech, a molecular biology distribution firm. Thomas initially tried adapting a software application from a European company for use in the U.S.  It didn’t meet his expectations so he financed the development of what would become FreedomVOICE. It had its first customer in 1996 and company reports that it has been growing at an average annual rate of 101% ever since.

Based in Encinitas, California, FreedomVOICE Systems offers a variety of advanced communication options through three monthly packages (FreedomLITE, FreedomPRO, and FreedomXTREME). Additional features can be added to any package for an additional fee.  The packages start at $9.95 a month, plus usage rates for forwarded calls ($4.5 cents to 6.9 cents a minute, depending upon the plan). FreedomVOICE offers both toll free and local phone numbers.

Features offered in the three plans include auto attendant, voicemail, caller ID, live call transfer, call announce, automated order-taking, on-hold music, unlimited message capacity, call transfer, pager notification of messages, call block, and mailbox directory listings. For additional fees ranging from $5 to $10 per month, customers can order a variety of fax services, call record, after hours greetings, on-demand teleconferencing and email message delivery. Additional fees are charged for transfers, vanity numbers, and 800 area code numbers, call analysis, and web voice and fax message delivery.

FreedomVOICE reports that it donates a portion of its revenue every month to the Children’s Hospital and Health Center in San Diego, California.
