Phone People, started in 2005, offers toll free numbers and a host of related telecommunications services. This Previously privately-held San Diego company employed fewer than twenty people. The company Onebox, (owned by J2 GLOBAL) acquired Phonepeople and owns it to this day.

Phone People offers four plans to meet the needs of various types of businesses. Plans available range in price from $9.99 per month for basic toll free service to $99.99 per month for enhanced services.

There are no set up fees or contractual obligations. The different plans include a variety of allowable minutes, extensions, and features. Additional minutes cost between 2.9 cents and 5.9 cents. Unused minutes do not carry over to the next month. Voicemail, caller id, message alerts; call reports, call announce, call screening, call forwarding, and voicemail to email are all available for additional monthly fees ranging from $3 to $10 per month.

Toll free numbers can be researched and assigned online at phonepeople.com. There is a one-time fee of $29 for a true 800 area code number. The company charges  $5 to transfer an existing toll free phone number into their system.

Phone People charges the same rates for toll free calls in 35 countries as they charge for calls within the United States and Canada.
