Today is Veteran’s Day and resources and assistance are available in many forms for our brave vets. For instance, in Massachusetts, free legal advice is available through the state’s Bar Association via a toll free telephone number. The assistance will be available on Wednesday, November 17 at 877-686-0711. Numerous other federal and state toll free phone numbers linked to offices and departments aimed at helping veterans are likewise available. Veterans can find this info online or by calling the offices of their elected officials.

The newest way to use toll free to help veterans begins next month in New England. The Massachusetts Bar Association will sponsor a Veterans Dial-A-Lawyer call-in program on Wednesday, November 17. Veterans who have legal questions toll free 877-686-0711 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. to speak to volunteer attorney. The Veterans Dial-A-Lawyer is provided at no charge. Government and private sector use of toll free phone numbers is continuously growing.

On the heels of the Obama administration’s new veterans policy, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced an easier process for Veterans seeking health care and disability compensation for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), with the publication of a final regulation in the Federal Register. Disability compensation is a tax-free benefit paid to a Veteran for disabilities that are a result of — or made worse by — injuries or diseases associated with active service.
