The last time a new toll free telephone number was released, stock was limited, interest was growing and the economy was changing. The same situation is happening now and a new toll free area code, specifically the 855 numbers, would generate millions of new toll free possibilities for companies and for personal use throughout the United States and Canada. Discussions about the imminent release of 855 are abundant and we hope that the numbers are allowed into the system soon.

Industry insiders are recommending that anyone wishing to obtain a toll free number secure one immediately. There are an average of 8,000 new toll free numbers registered each day. With a limited number of numerical possibilities, the finite supply is nearly expended.
There are no immediate plans to add another toll free pre-fix. In fact, the reserved 855 pre-fix is not expected to be released for several years. Meanwhile, toll free phone numbers have become a staple of the business world and demand is consistently rising.

The continuation of the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has promoted new toll free telephone numbers for information and assistance. The latest: Florida has set up a toll free telephone line to provide residents and visitors with information about the spill. Gov. Charlie Crist has announced activation of the line – 1-888-337-3569. Operators will answer questions about the state’s response activities, volunteer opportunities and health, safety and protective tips. The line is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days per week.

The release of the 855 toll free telephone area code numbers would allow millions of toll free subscribers to get a new custom toll free phone number. We had heard rumors that the 855 numbers might be released this month. But so far, there is still no word about a decision to allow more toll free telephone area codes into the telecommunications marketplace. With the majority of existing numbers already taken, the need for new numbers is imminent. Numbers with the 855 (and 844 and so on..) area codes are being held in reserve for this specific purpose. It’s been a decade since new toll free phone numbers have been released for public use and demand grows every year. It’s time.

As the massive oil spill moves throughout the Gulf Of Mexico toward the Florida keys, response agencies have mobilized to establish a plan which includes a toll free phone number to help monitor the path of the oil. The states have set up toll free numbers for residents to call if they see oil-stained wildlife or oil on the shore. For wildlife, call (866) 557-1401. For shore sitings, call (866) 448-5816.
Efforts to install a concrete cover to catch oil leaking from the drill site, 5,000 feet below the surface, are under way. But if that maneuver fails, the leak could continue to release 210,000 gallons of oil into the gulf each day.

As our readers know, we believe it is time for the new 855 toll free telephone are codes to be released. We have, many times, noted the limited number of available toll free numbers and the growing need. We have written our opinion that the new numbers will ease the burden and decrease illegal hoarding and distribution.
