There are lots of ways to use a toll free number – they aren’t just for businesses or personal use. A recent news report show that toll free numbers are in high demand as “tip lines”. Many toll free numbers are being set up to allow normal citizens the “free”dom to let authorities know what’s going on. “I think people are more likely to report things if they know they can make a quick, free call,” notes a prominent psychology grad. New York State has launched a toll free number to help address its affordable housing crisis. Through a web site and toll free number, people in need of housing can be matched with landlords. This is a brand new initiative from the New York State Department of Health and the New York Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. The toll-free number to the bilingual call center is 1-877-428-8844, staffed weekdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

As the bad economy and the failing auto industry drives consumers to buy used vehicles instead of new, the Connecticut Better Business Bureau is promoting a toll free service to help consumers find good deals on used cars.
Some of the information discussed on the toll free hotline are the age of the car, safety issues, how long the consumer intends to keep it, features, and anticipated maintenance expenses. The National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) toll-free hotline is 800-424-9393.

That’s right – The social security office has released an 800 hotline for consumers to call! Many people that try to call the government office are likely to be senior citizens so this 800 number was quite necessary.

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that movie moguls in both Hollywood and Bollywood are joining forces to fight movie piracy, using a toll free telephone number. The recently formed group between Hollywood and Bollywood to battle piracy will now be known as the Alliance Against Copyright Theft, and this week announced a toll free anti-piracy hotline. The AACT will launch the toll free hotline to report piracy. The anti-piracy hotline will allow people to register their piracy complaints without revealing their identity by calling the toll free phone number.
