1-800 numbers are available from large phone companies and from federally approved toll free service providers, Responsible Organizations. These smaller companies have the same access to the database of available phone numbers as AT&T and Verizon. However, service fees and features can vary greatly so the best thing we can do is to advise subscribers to research several toll free providers before signing up.

We had a question about NANPA–The North American Numbering Plan Administration. So here is what this group does: As administrator of the 800-855 resource, NANPA is responsible for assigning 800-855 numbers and maintaining an accurate record of the entity responsible for each assignment. The 800-855 resource is to be used only for the purpose of accessing public services on the PSTN intended for the deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired. And, if a service provider goes out of business, or if the assignee no longer provides the services for which the 800-855 number was assigned, the number must be returned to NANPA.

You have certainly seen and heard much discussion about the pending release of the new 855 toll free area code phone numbers. It is very important to rely on trustworthy resources and to carefully consider all the information going around. Some entities are using questionable practices to entice people interested in a new 855 number. Learn all the information and be cautious. Deal with a service provider that has been around for awhile and who knows the industry.

With 800 numbers becoming more and more difficult to obtain, the toll free 866 numbers are rising in popularity and fast becoming one of the most requested toll free numbers. Toll free providers have recently been bombarded with calls from business owners needing a toll free number and not being able to find one. This makes things difficult for client and providers alike as the goal is to help out.

Pay close attention to the small print when subscribing for toll free service. Work with a reliable and established service provider who will be sure to guide you to the best options and features available. Toll free phone service should offer customers features and price points that meet their individual needs. Subscribers should never encounter any surprise fees or get locked into an unbreakable contract. Don’t pay for features you won’t likely use. Find a good provider and work with an experienced staff.
