855 Sooner Rather Than Later

It’s hard to believe that the last pool of toll free area code numbers (the 866 numbers) were released for a whole decade ago! And during that decade, toll free phone service has become more popular than in the previous three decades since its inception. It is time for new round of numbers. Subscribers are tired of searching for a good available custom number. And why should they? There are millions of possible toll free phone numbers that could be made available. We hope the 855 and 844 numbers are unveiled sooner rather than later.

Limited Supply of Toll Frees May Cause Portioning

The stock of available toll free numbers is now so depleted that insiders say government agencies may implement another rationing of the 800, 888, 877, and 866 pre-fixes within months. Rumors of a rationing program have subscribers scrambling to obtain numbers, creating an even more limited supply.

Still Waiting On 855

We were anticipating some news by now, mid-March, about the release of reserved toll free phone numbers, specifically the 855 area codes. Still no official word, although the rumor mill continues to grind with promises that we will see these new numbers made available for public use by this time next year. Good service providers and savvy customers are already preparing so they can scoop up a good custom phone number as soon as these new numbers are released. We will continue to keep you posted.

Good News Is Two-Fold On Toll Free

Just how many quality custom toll free phone numbers remain available for new subscribers? This is a question that pops up frequently and an issue of constant concern for those of us in the telecommunications industry. With a limited number of numerical possibilities and increased interest in obtaining the remaining toll free phone numbers, the supply could eventually be gone. But the good news is two-fold. First, there are still providers that can supply a good custom number with any of the four area codes (800, 888, 877 and 866) and there is an anticipated turn-about within the next year or so. New numbers (the new 855 area codes) are expected to be released to replenish supplies.

It’s Time For 855

As far as we can determine, there is still no word about a decision to allow more toll free area codes into the telecommunications marketplace. With the majority of existing numbers already taken, the need for new numbers is imminent. Numbers with the 855 (and 844 and so on..) area codes are being held in reserve for this specific purpose. It’s been a decade since new toll free phone numbers have been released for public use and demand grows every year. It’s time.

Toll Free Rationing Taken into Consideration

There are no immediate plans to add another toll free pre-fix. In fact, the reserved 855 pre-fix numbers are not expected to be released for several years. Meanwhile, toll free phone numbers have become a staple of the business world and demand is consistently rising.

Industry insiders are recommending that anyone wishing to obtain a toll free number secure one immediately. There are an average of 8,000 new toll free numbers registered each day

Questions Linger About 855 Numbers

Here in this industry we field a lot of questions about telecommunications and, in particular, toll free phone service. Most notable lately are questions about whether or not new 855 area codes will become available for use. As we have stated here many times, we are still unsure exactly when the 855 numbers will be released but the buzz points to sometime within the next 12 months or so. We will see. In the meantime, we will keep all our readers posted and as soon as we hear anything at all we will let you know through this blog.

Going Fast

If the current trend continues, tens of thousands of toll free phone numbers will become unavailable this week. How many remain available? That figure is a moving target. But suffice it to say that there are not nearly enough good toll free numbers to last for very much longer. In a few short years, at this rate, we could be entirely out of toll free phone numbers…and the last few will not exactly be the cream of the crop numbers. With the release of new 855 area code toll free numbers, the problem of the low supply would be eased. Subscribers would be able to get new custom numbers that fit there needs and there would be less compromise. We hope the new 855 numbers are released soon, before the supply gets much lower. With tens of thousands of numbers being taken each week, they are going fast.
