855 toll free phone numbers are still held in abeyance. We hear that the release could be as early as next year but nothing has been confirmed. We do know that the new toll free area codes (855, 844…) would allow millions of new toll free combinations for business owners and for personal users of toll free. The new numbers would allow for creative new custom numbers not currently available. The release of 855 area code phone numbers in 2011 is a good idea for the US economy and we hope the rumors are true. The minute we hear any confirmation we will advise our readers so they can contact toll free service providers to arrange for their new numbers.

The stock of available toll free numbers is now so depleted that insiders say government agencies may implement another rationing of the 800, 888, 877, and 866 pre-fixes within months. Rumors of a rationing program have subscribers scrambling to obtain numbers, creating an even more limited supply.

Google is now directing anyone who inquires about suicide to a toll free phone number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. The information, which will be highlighted by a red phone, will take precedence over all other search results. Dr. Roni Zeiger, chief health strategist for Google, told the New York Times that this is the second time Google has added the guidance link. Earlier this year, the search engine began providing a toll free phone number for the national poison control hotline.

With the fixed amount of available 800 numbers shrinking fast, subscribers who waited to secure toll free service are now learning why it is so difficult to obtain a number.
Industry insiders say the soaring popularity of toll free service combined with the failure of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to release additional numbers have created a tight supply of 800 numbers in heavy demand.

Telecommunications industry sources now say an unthinkable embargo on new toll free phone service in the United States is a real possibility within the next year. Facing a severe shortage of available 800-numbers, a skyrocketing demand for toll free service and an emerging black market for 800 numbers, insiders say officials feel they are left with no choice but to impose an embargo.

Real estate is rebounding. A report on this morning’s NBC news indicated that house “flipping” is up and the market is growing. In the Miami region, thousands of empty new condos have been sold in recent weeks. And realtors are getting creative and using toll free to connect with homebuyers, realtors and to track markets. The partners in Hobson Group Realty launched an online “store” which offers a range of plans to assist people in buying and selling a home. Options include a commission-free strategy, where clients pay a monthly or one-time fee for services; or the traditional commission based on a percentage of the sale price. Home sellers and agents can also select tailored advertising in local publications. The venture is able to track advertising. It also uses a toll free phone number and can supply reports on the locations of each incoming call to help target promotions.

With the April 15 tax filing deadline just two weeks away, the IRS is now offering taxpayers who have not yet filed a few last-minute tips and assistance through a toll free phone number. 1-800-TAX-FORM. Another example of government now offering a free connection to the taxpayers. Toll free phone service is becoming the norm for government officials from federal agencies right down to small villages and towns.
