With 2010 coming to a close we are fielding a lot of inquiries about whether the 844 numbers will be released in 2011. All signs point to that fact that the need is there for the 844 numbers and that the FCC will release them at some point. The success of the newly released 855 numbers proves that toll free numbers are in high demand. New 855 numbers would help ease the burden.

Rumors are swirling that an amended proposal to ration the remaining supply of toll free phone numbers has been re-introduced to officials at the 800 Service Management Systems (SMS/800). Ever heard of the bill in California called the “California SB 1613”? Here’s a few excerpts and a place to get the full details – it’s worth looking in to:
SECTION 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as the
California Wireless Telephone Automobile Safety Act of 2006.
SEC. 2. The Legislature finds and declares all of the following:
(a) There are significant safety benefits associated with the
availability of wireless communication technologies, including, but
not limited to, providing assistance that helps save lives and
minimizes property damage.
(b) On a daily basis, California drivers make thousands of
wireless telephone emergency 911 calls.
(c) The availability of wireless telephones in motor vehicles
allows motorists to report accidents, fires, naturally occurring
life-threatening situations, including, but not limited to, rock
slides and fallen trees, other dangerous road conditions, road rage,
dangerous driving, criminal behavior, including drunk driving, and
stranded motorist situations.
