Once again politics and toll free phone lines are going hand-in-hand. Following the controversial Arizona illegal immigrations law, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials received nearly 100,000 calls to the toll free phone tip line from Oct. 1 through the end of April 2010. At this point in the previous fiscal year, the number has been reported as below 64,000. The tip line was started in 2003 as part of Operation Predator, a campaign to crack down on international child pornography and child sex tourism. The toll free line was so successful ICE decided to expand it to cover all customs and immigration-related crimes. The ICE hot line can be reached at 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423).

Industry insiders are recommending that anyone wishing to obtain a toll free number secure one immediately. There are an average of 8,000 new toll free numbers registered each day. With a limited number of numerical possibilities, the finite supply is nearly expended.
There are no immediate plans to add another toll free pre-fix. In fact, the reserved 855 pre-fix is not expected to be released for several years. Meanwhile, toll free phone numbers have become a staple of the business world and demand is consistently rising.
