The state owned telecom operator, MTNL is going to offer 3G phone services. MTNL will offer the 3G high-speed data mobile phone free services initially to its high-spending mobile customers for a period of two months on a trial basis. Read more here.

With the fixed amount of available 800 numbers shrinking fast, subscribers who waited to secure toll free service are now learning why it is so difficult to obtain a number.
Industry insiders say the soaring popularity of toll free service combined with the failure of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to release additional numbers have created a tight supply of 800 numbers in heavy demand.

We are interested to see the FCC’s report on the acquisition and activations of the new 855 toll free area codes. We know that the new numbers have been very popular and that demand is high. The FCC will determine how quickly the numbers are activated. At some point after that, the 844 numbers will come into play. The need is high and even with the new 855 numbers, supplies will soon be low again. The 844 back-up numbers will help.

Is it irrational to begin rationing toll free number out? Some think not; in fact, some think that a toll free number should only be “not available” to another person if it’s getting use. It’s not likely that the day will come where you can lose your toll free number for non-usage but it’s possible… Read more here.

Insiders say to avoid being caught in an undercover investigation and facing hefty fines from the Federal Communications Commission, anyone interested in obtaining an 800 number should deal with reputable service providers such as Qwest, or AT&T.

Call identifying information. Call identifying information means dialing or signaling information that identifies the origin, direction, destination, or termination of each communication generated or received by a subscriber by means of any equipment, facility, or service of a telecommunications carrier. Call identifying information is “reasonably available” to a carrier if it is present at an intercept access point and can be made available without the carrier being unduly burdened with network modifications.
