With 2010 coming to a close we are fielding a lot of inquiries about whether the 844 numbers will be released in 2011. All signs point to that fact that the need is there for the 844 numbers and that the FCC will release them at some point. The success of the newly released 855 numbers proves that toll free numbers are in high demand. New 855 numbers would help ease the burden.

Rumors are swirling that an amended proposal to ration the remaining supply of toll free phone numbers has been re-introduced to officials at the 800 Service Management Systems (SMS/800). Earlier this year, insiders reported that a similar rationing bill was narrowly defeated. Get more needed information here.

California’s law to try and prevent accidents seems like a ploy to make more more money for the government. This law is surely the spawn of 2007’s California SB 33 in which people under 18 were forbidden from using a cell while driving. Now everyone is faced with a fine if caught. The fine itself isn’t actually that debilitating but once you add up all the extra taxes and fees, that little fine for the first offense turns into much more than you probably expected. Remember in October 2009 when Maria Shriver, wife of governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, was caught by paparazzi driving while cell phonin’ it? How embarrassing… 90% of us can’t afford a headset because of the economy and the people that can don’t have to obey the law? Give us a break, California.

The California driving law will impose a fine of $20 for a first-time offense and a $50 fine for each additional offense. The bill allows exceptions for calls to law enforcement agencies for emergency purposes, or emergency services personnel while operating an authorized emergency vehicle. It makes you wonder if Maria Shriver, wife of then governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, was making an emergency call while caught in 2009 driving while talking on her cell. More odd was that Schwarzenegger also decided to pass a bill effectively banning paparazzi from photographing celebrities in personal settings – was he upset that his wife got caught on her cell? You know, lots of people are upset about a lot of things but you can’t go enacting laws just because you’re mad, if that was the case. Let’s try to help the people of California, not just try to get more money from them… Shall we?

Recent reports have referred to the situation as the ‘the perfect storm” meaning the shortage of numbers, the soaring demand, and the failure of the federal government to release reserved numbers have all collided to create a situation in which rationing, an embargo or even a complete depletion of 800 numbers is possible.
THIS is interesting.
